Railparts AB partners with Scandic Sourcing

Scandic sourcing has signed a 4 year cooperation agreement with Railparts AB, Västerås, Sweden to provide sourcing services for components and parts for the rail road industry.

Railparts AB is a subsidiary of Travel Design AB in Sweden. Travel Design AB, founded in 1992, designs trains and railcars both for new projects and renovation of older passenger cars.  Customers includes Bombardier, Ahlsthom, Euromate and over 50 train operators in Northern Europe. In 2008 they started the subsidiary Railparts AB to also provide parts and components for the  renovation projects as well as spareparts. Rail Parts AB and Travel Design AB has together 25 employees today, of which 20 are engineers, and a turnover of 28 Million SEK.

“ We chose to work with Scandic Sourcing as we very quickly could get access to a technically competent, and already working sourcing organization in China. It would have taken us years to start up our own organization in China with big risks and drain on our own capacity. ” Says Dan Lindholm, Managing Director of Rail Parts AB.

Scandic Sourcing will provide a team of engineers and logistics specialist to handle Rail Parts AB’s supplier searchers, supplier qualifications, specification translations, request for quotes, purchasing, delivery coordination, quality control and logistics.

Kina are investing heavily in expansion of rail infrastructure and are in the middle of a 5 Trillion Yuan project to expand its rail network to 120,000 km by 2020. There are very large and professional suppliers of rail components, however they are totally focused on the domestic market. If they have an export department it is seldom manned by experienced, technical people. It is necessary to communicate in Chinese with their engineers through their domestic organizations.
